Lexicon Municipal Gallery Dun Laoghaire-Curated by Claire Halpin

Deirdre Kearney, Marie Sheridan.

Through a collective lens, the aim of this project is to visually articulate the effects of climate change on our coastal communities. This artwork invites viewers to connect with the vulnerability of the marine ecosystems that define the borough of Laoghaire/Rathdown.

Taking the form of a wall hung “Cabinet of Curiosities” / Vitrine this unit displays a number of small artworks inspired by the project as it evolved during the period of collaboration. Using a recycled light fitting, comprised of several mirrored compartments, the surfaces reflect and distort the artefacts exhibited. A QR code on the artwork directs the viewer to a site giving real time data on the water quality of local beaches, provoking reflection on the profound consequences of climate-induced shifts in the ecosystem.
