Deirdre Kearney. BCL MA. – VISUAL ARTIST.

Completing an MA, Art in the Contemporary World, at NCAD, Dublin, in 2016 Deirdre Kearney also holds a Law Degree from University College, Dublin, Ireland and is a qualified solicitor.

In 20I0-2011 Deirdre Kearney was appointed under the NAPD scheme as artist in residence to Meanscoil Gharman, Enniscorthy. She was subsequently appointed artist in residence to Mount Anville Secondary School, Goatstown, Dublin, for the period 2012-2015. In 2012, her series entitled “The Shipwrights Daughter” was selected to be shown in the Titanic Centre, Belfast as part of the Titanic Exhibition.

Taking part in many group exhibitions, as well as five solo shows, Deirdre’s work explores the notion of truth. Her paintings trace a line from witnessing to memory and from there to the surface of the canvas. Given the myriad possibilities for the distortion of the visual process Deirdre’s practice questions the underlying legitimacy of received truths given the potential for contamination by external forces.

Deirdre’s work is held in many private and public collections both in Ireland and abroad.
